PICKLES the parrot is talkative, friendly and handsome like most cockatoos. Pickles pictured below with general manager Stephen Petty is a star pesonality at the new Angus Inn.

The nine-month old cockatoo holds court from this white wrought from cage in the foyer of the Lower Hutt hotel. Guests enjoy chatting with him even though his vocabulary is limited to “hello, pretty boy and Pickles”. He chews on his pine cone perch and occasionally takes a break from performing acrobatics on his bar to nibble a seed or two.

Pickles was born in Petone last October. Since January he has been looked after by Angus Inn general manager, Stephen Petty and his family. He has now taken up his new perch at the inn. The hotel ran a competition to name the cockatoo and the Pickles was chosen from about 600 entries. Read more…
